This political cartoon is representing how imporant Africa was to the Imperial Countires who are tugging at the country. All of these countries had a "mad scramble" for Africa in their attempts to establish colonies thre and make possible trading opportunities. The author is obviously showing how important this country was to the European powers in their attemps to conquor this "dark continent". I like this cartoon because it shows just how important Africa was for Imperialism. All of the European counties around the continent shows the want and desire they all had for their piece of land to establish their own colony.
As the quote goes, "The sun never sets on the British Empire," this cartoon portrays this perfectly. The idea behind the saying is that Great Britain controled so many colonies around the world that the sun was always shining on a part of their empire. I belive that the author is trying to say this through the picture. The hands on all of the countires show the control England had all over the world. I also enjoy this cartoon because it allows me to better understand how much power Britain had during this era.
